Katy Gladwin

I believe in a woman’s innate ability to give birth. I also believe in her intuition and instinct to have the birth experience she desires when given information and support, as well as unconditional understanding and love.

Hello! My name is Katy Gladwin.  I am a mom to a beautiful boy and partner to wonderful man!  I am an EMU graduate with a BS in Biology/Pre-Med.  I live in Ypsilanti with my husband, 3 year old son, and 2 cats. Providing support and education through pregnancy and childbirth has always been my calling, though I took a winding path to find it. During my last year of school I realized med-school was not the right fit for me and that birth-work and being a supporting part of the childbearing year was my true calling.

Birth Doula Family

Birth Doula Family

Having attended over 75 births since November 2011, I have been so blessed to see the transformative nature of birth up close. Women need to be trusted and supported in their choices, and I have attended beautiful births ranging from home births to VBACs to planned C-sections, drug free to epidurals, I have even been able to attend a twin birth :), and in all of these experiences have seen mothers so grateful that they were allowed to make their own well informed choices.  This is the cornerstone of my beliefs, mothers have the ability to know, intuitively, what is best for them and their baby, and my place is to unconditionally support.

I am quickly gaining experience in so many different methods and modalities used to achieve a natural birth.  Hypnobirthing and Hypnobabies, hydrotherapy and massage.  I am also gaining so much knowledge of the medicine and interventions that are usually associated with labor in a hospital.  I believe I have a healthy respect for the emergency medicine that can be life-saving, but am also quickly learning the questions to ask to avoid using emergency medicine as routine care.

It is never too early or too late in your pregnancy to hire a birth doula!

pregnant doula!

I am excited to be able to assist a local home-birth midwife, gaining valuable insight into what a truly natural birth looks like.  I have volunteered at Doulas Care as the Program Director (Sept 2011- Sept 2012) as well as a volunteer doula.  I have also learned a great deal as a mentee of Deb Rhizal of Pregnancy Arts, who is a mother, RN, doula, childbirth educator, and wellness coach.   She has been huge in guiding me to navigate the creation of this professional and growing doula business, so that I can be supported in the work I love to do, supporting moms and their families.

I love postpartum visits!

See what my clients are saying!

I live with my partner Ross and son Zachary in Ypsilanti with our 2 cats.  We have a perfect son Aiden who was born still in the summer of 2016.  It was a life changing and difficult time for our family.  We are continuously finding healing in each other, and in our amazing community.  Motherhood is amazing, though often overwhelming, Zachary brings our family so much joy, and I am eternally grateful he chose us to be his family. I enjoy cooking, gardening, knitting and jewelry making.

I have been trained in Cranial Sacral Bodywork for infants and am learning all I can about the healing power of nature and herbs.  I am a current student of Still Birthday University to become a certified Birth and Bereavement Doula through their program by January 2017. I am trained as a Certified Nursing Assistant and certified in Infant, Child and Adult CPR and First Aid, and Neonatal Resuscitation.

I am extremely excited about the direction my life is going right now and can not wait to be a support to you during your pregnancy, birth, postpartum time and entire childbearing year.
